Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days. The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge is accessible via the town of Trenton, Michigan, which sits approximately 30 minutes by car from Detroit. This sprawling space is truly one-of-a-kind.
The refuge is certainly notable for its natural splendor, but it also stands out for one fascinating fact: it’s the only internationally managed wildlife refuge in North America, as management is shared with Canada.
There are upwards of 6,200 acres of land within the refuge, though this space is divided into a series of “units,” each with its own charms and highlights. Outdoorsy types will be in paradise when they visit.
Established in 2001 by both American and Canadian political leaders, the refuge seeks to bolster relations between the two countries while furthering conservation efforts along the Detroit River and Lake Erie.
