Michiganders who appreciate history are lucky to live among many remnants of our state’s past. From restored buildings to historical markers, there’s no shortage of information or learning opportunities for history buffs throughout the Great Lakes State. One such spot in the town of Brooklyn offers an unbeatable opportunity to merge history with natural splendor - and you’ll want to see for yourself.
Cambridge Junction Historic State Park is located at 13220 M-50 in Brooklyn.
This one-of-a-kind park sits in Michigan’s Irish Hills region and offers a unique chance to explore history while appreciating an underrated section of the Great Lakes State.
The park consists of 80 acres, so it isn’t as large as some of Michigan’s more famous outdoor destinations - but the experience you’ll have here is truly unforgettable.
Upon arriving, you’ll appreciate the rolling hills and greenery that surround you. It’s easy to see why this region is often referred to as Michigan’s own slice of the Emerald Isle.
At the heart of Cambridge Junction Historic State Park is Walker Tavern, a former farmhouse tavern that served as a pit stop for stagecoach travelers during the early 1800s.
In its heyday, the tavern frequently bustled with activity and welcomed those who had set out on westward journeys through the area. Today, visitors can step into the past.
If that weren’t enough, the park also houses a reconstructed historic barn, a farmer’s market during warmer months, and plenty of special activities throughout the summer and fall.
