It’s not hard to find some isolation when you’re in Michigan, but sometimes you’re not looking to drive too far out of the way just for a quiet hike. Those in Lansing, Michigan don’t have to travel too far to find a little-known path that can lead them straight to the banks of the Grand River.

Approximately 3.6 miles of trails await you on this scenic and peaceful hike. It’s considered relatively easy and only takes roughly one hour and five minutes to complete.
This is a trail where dogs are allowed. Just don’t forget to leash up your four-legged friend.
As the name suggests, there’s an expansive meadow portion of this trail. However, it also leads to a section that runs alongside a scenic pond.
You won’t often find a lot of foot traffic on this trail. While it’s close to the state capital, Hawk Meadow Park Loop is not one of the more crowded parks in the area.
The path is mostly paved making it suitable for all abilities. Hikers have reported seeing a variety of wildlife on their journey including geese, cranes, swans, and kingfishers.

While this section isn’t technically part of the Hawk Meadow Park Loop, it’s too good to pass up being right across the street. Extend your hike past an hour by connecting with the Capital City Bird Sanctuary.
This loop is only a half-hour walk at roughly 1.5 miles. It’s well worth it as it will take you straight to the banks of the Grand River.
It’s also a protected bird sanctuary, meaning you’ll have a chance to see some pristine wildlife. You might find you’re the only person there.
This trail isn’t only for hiking as visitors are free to mountain bike and run as well. I love the extra boost I get when jogging by a body of water.
If you’re looking for more activities, you’re never too far from Delta Mills Park if you’re looking to launch a canoe or play some pickleball.
Hawk Meadow Park Loop isn’t a place you’ll be wandering for hours upon hours. It’s a bite-sized hike with big-time features near Michigan’s state capital. I’d definitely feel compelled to bring my dog to this easily joggable path before making my way toward the Grand River through the Capital City Bird Sanctuary (also a candidate for next year's list of the 18 Best Hikes In Michigan.
