Massachusetts has plenty of hidden waterfalls, but not all of them are easily accessible. Some require hours of hiking or some pretty serious forestry skills. However, visiting a few of the state’s most beautiful falls is as easy as climbing a set of stairs. Here’s one amazing Massachusetts waterfall hike that no one should miss out on.
At just 0.3 miles, the Glendale Falls Trail is an easy escape for even the most casual hikers. And it has an amazing payoff.
You’ll start off at the trailhead in Huntington. The trail is well-marked and lightly-trafficked, so you might have the whole thing to yourself.
While other waterfall hikes start you off at the bottom and make you hike all the way up, this trail actually leads you right to the top of the falls first.
The view from up here is absolutely gorgeous. You’ll want to hang around for a while to absorb the natural splendor and maybe take a photo or two.
Hikers with small kids and dogs should be wary of getting too close to the waterfall’s edge, though it’s easy to stay at a safe distance.
Next, you’ll head down the side of the falls on a short trail with picturesque stone steps.
Most of the walk down is across gently sloping earth, but the stairs are there to help with the steeper bits.
Once you reach the bottom, you’ll be able to marvel at the multiple cascading levels of crystal-clear water.
It’s actually difficult to say whether the view from the top or bottom of the waterfall is prettier.
Depending on what time of year you visit, this spot can either be a soothing green oasis or a glittering, frosty hideaway.
Dogs are allowed on this trail as long as they are on-leash.
Hiking to Glendale Falls is an easy and beautiful way to spend an afternoon.
