Summer vacation is finally here! If you are like me, you may be searching for affordable activities to do with your family. A trip to a beautiful nature sanctuary is always a fun way to spend the day. If you happen to be in the Lenox area, I highly suggest visiting the Mass Audubon's Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. With so much to see and explore, this stunning nature center is even worth a drive!
The Mass Audubon Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary is set on 1,100 acres of scenic property. The wonderful nature center is partially accessible and offers fun activities for all ages.
There is an admission fee for all visitors.
Many people come to Pleasant Valley for the hikes. There are seven miles of trails to explore.
The easiest hike is the All Persons Trail/Pike's Pond Trail Boardwalk Loop. This accessible trail takes about 20-30 minutes to complete and is a popular path for spotting beavers building dams.
For a more challenging hike, you can try your hand at the Trail of the Ledges/Overbrook Loop, which will take you to the top of Lenox Mountain. This difficult two-hour hike offers stunning views of the Catskill Mountains and Mount Greylock.
For safety reasons, only use the Trail of the Ledges path to hike up the mountain.
The nature center also has a wonderful play area for the little ones in your family. Kids will love climbing the nature obstacle course, building a home for gnomes, and learning all about the animals that inhabit the area.
The Mass Audubon Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary also hosts lots of fun family programming throughout the year. The upcoming “Evening at the Beaver Ponds” is a fantastic family hike where participants will learn all about beavers and other pond wildlife.
The nature center also hosts many special events for birders, including some that are easily accessible to all. To get the best view of some stunning wildlife, be sure to bring a good pair of

Have you visited Mass Audubon's Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary? If so, what was your favorite part about the nature center? More information can be found at the Mass Audubon's Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary website and the Mass Audubon's Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary Facebook page. If you are looking for more fun ways to explore nature with your family, I recommend visiting the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary in Topsfield and the Mass Audubon’s Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Norfolk.
