Imagine yourself walking into a glittering cave of pink crystal filled with soft, dancing light and healing air. Sound like a fantasy? It’s actually an experience you can have right here in Massachusetts.
The Four Elements Salon in Westport, a salt cave in Massachusetts, has their very own salt cave. Salt therapy is gaining steam as a trendy and natural way to relax and heal, and this amazing cave surrounds you with the most therapeutic atmosphere imaginable. Read on to learn more about this unexpected and dreamy way to unwind.
Salt therapy, formally known as halotherapy, is thought to have a slew of benefits. Practitioners believe it helps breathing and respiratory complaints in particular, including COPD, asthma, allergies, cold symptoms, and bronchitis. Salt therapy is also said to elevate mood, alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, and relax the body. Diehard fans of salt cave experiences frequently say that the treatment has amazing benefits for sufferers of acne, psoriasis, and eczema. But even if you're not looking for a cure to any health issues, spending some time in a salt cave is so very relaxing.
The floor of the salt cave is made of crunchy, pink Himalayan salt. The feeling of it beneath your feet and between your toes is utterly unique. The cave itself is made of massive blocks of pink salt crystals. The blocks were actually harvested from deep within a salt mine in Pakistan, near the Himalaya mountains.
Once inside the cave, guests simply pull up a zero-gravity lounger and breathe deeply. The environment is kept as dry as possible, and fresh salt vapor is constantly delivered through a ventilation system so that each visitor can have the most relaxing experience possible. Even the fireplace is made of the thick salt stones. Flickering, soothing light plays across the surface of the cave, and some of the crystals are backlit to enhance the otherworldly feel of the cave. Above, white lights hang against a dark background to simulate the twinkling of a night sky.
Visitors can indulge in a number of different therapies, including single and couples massage. The atmosphere in the cave is truly unlike anything else you'll find at a traditional spa. Even if you don't buy into the health benefits, it's hard to argue with the relaxation effects of a place like this.
A single visit will run you about $45 for 45 minutes in the salt cave. Appointments can be made on the Four Elements Salon and Spa website.
