October Mountain happens to be the largest state forest in Massachusetts at 16,500 acres. It is located in the western part of the state close to Tanglewood.
Throughout this state forest are numerous hiking trails from easy to difficult. Visitors can also go kayaking, canoeing, fishing, mountain, biking, off-roading, and more here.
If you would like to truly get away from it all, you can take a moderately difficult hike to Felton Lake. Located within October Mountain State Forest, this remote lake can be found at an elevation of 1,580 feet.
It will take at least two hours to hike to Felton Lake along Gorge Trail to Felton Trail. But the peace and quiet you'll experience will be well worth the physical effort to get here.
Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to sit, relax, and enjoy the natural beauty that will surround you here at Felton Lake. It's the perfect place to escape the grind of life for a while.
