When you think about waterfront activities in Massachusetts, the ocean might be the first body of water that comes to mind. While we are blessed to have over 1,500 miles of beautiful shoreline in the Bay State, there are also many wonderful rivers, lakes, and ponds to enjoy. Many of these offer great opportunities for a plethora of outdoor recreation activities. We have already told you about Walden Pond in Concord and Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg in Webster (bonus points if you can pronounce its name correctly - that's how we know you're a local!). Now it’s time to explore Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester!
Lake Quinsigamond is a wonderful place to enjoy a day on the water. You can access the lake via two public day areas (the Regatta Point area and the Lake Park area) within the Quinsigamond State Park.
The Regatta Point area is a great place to cool off in the summertime. You can swim, boat, or just relax on the beach.
The entrance is located near the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
The Lake Park area is located south of Route 9. It has a swimming beach, football field, and tennis courts.
Grills, benches, and a pavilion area make it a great spot to bring a picnic lunch or to gather to celebrate a special occasion.
It is also a beautiful place for a walk. There is an easy paved path - about a mile long - that takes you around the lake
Lake Quinsigamond also has some great fishing. Northern pike, white perch, and brook trout are just a few fish that inhabit the lake.
Competitive rowing is one of the lake’s most popular activities. The sport has been taking place on the lake since the 1850s.
If you haven’t yet viewed any of the championship events, I suggest heading down to see one!
As beautiful as the lake is in the daytime, it is particularly stunning at night when the Kenneth Burns Memorial Bridge is aglow with lights.
Have you taken part in any of the recreational activities at Lake Quinsigamond? Please tell us all about it! More information about this fantastic lake can be found on the Quinsigamond State Park website.
