You may recognize the name Walden Pond from high school English class. This beautiful Concord body of water was made famous by author Henry David Thoreau, who once resided here in a simple cabin in the woods. Thoreau wrote many classic essays about this pristine location. What you might not know, however, is that Walden Pond is a great inland spot to visit for a summer swim.
Walden Pond is the deepest natural freshwater body in the state. This kettle hole pond is 102 feet deep and was formed from a melted glacier.
It is now a popular spot to spend a summer's day.
The beach is on the smaller side, but the water is clear and clean.
There are restrooms and picnic areas available for you to use. Be aware that there is a fee to park.
Walden Pond is also a great place to kayak. There is a boat ramp available for you to use.
While you are at the park, be sure to spend some time on the hiking trails.
Enjoy the beautiful scenery that inspired Thoreau and visit a replica of his cabin that once stood on the property.
I recommend that you download a trail map that will tell you more about the fascinating history of this property.
The Walden Pond State Reservation also has an on-site Visitor's Center that is worth a visit.
