The hike to Race Brook Falls in Sheffield is one of the best waterfall hikes in Massachusetts.
This excursion will take you past two portions of Race Brook Falls and is great for hikers of all skill levels.
The first segment of the hike is only about 0.6 miles and will take you to the stunning Lower Falls in Sheffield.
If you continue onwards another 2.5 miles, you’ll reach the dramatic Upper Falls.
This portion of the hike is much less traveled, so you might end up having the trail all to yourself! It's a bit more trecherous than the first part of the trail, but when you get to see this part of such a beautiful waterfall in Massachusetts, you won't even remember the tricky side steps you had to ensure to get here.
The full hike covers about 6.1 miles of trail there and back, with the ascent to the Upper Falls being more strenuous than the hike to the Lower Falls.
But completing the full hike will reward you with positively stunning views of the Mount Everett State Reservation.
The Race Brook Falls trail is beautful year-round, but is best tackled between April and November in order to see the falls at their best.
