How does a waterfall hike sound to you? How about a hike to a double waterfall? Now, that sounds even better! Bash Bish Falls is a breathtaking waterfall with a double cascade located in the Taconic Mountains of Berkshire County. It's found close to the border that Massachusetts shares with New York.
Bash Bish Falls is located within Bash Bish Falls State Park in the Taconic Mountains along the Massachusetts-New York state border. It is the highest waterfall in the state of Massachusetts and quite a sight to behold.
To get there involves a 2.1-mile hike along the Bash Bish Falls Trail. This out-and-back trail is a popular one given the gorgeous falls and it's rated as moderate.
You'll experience a 521-foot overall elevation gain on this trek, although part of the trail is relatively flat along a creek.
Fed by a spring in the Massachusetts' town of Mount Washington, the waterfall eventually cascades as twin falls into a pool below.
The double waterfall has a height of 80 feet, making it the tallest in Massachusetts.
While the pool below the falls looks tempting, it is forbidden to swim here. The pool is shallow and rocks can be extremely slippery which makes for dangerous conditions, so please exercise extreme caution.
Bash Bish Falls can also be accessed from Taconic State Park in New York.
Although the waterfall is the main attraction of this particular hike, remember to enjoy the views and the scenery you will see along the way.
When hiking, remember to bring sunscreen, bug and tick spray, and plenty of water with you. Also, obey all park rules and remember to leave no trace! Whatever you bring on this and any other hike must leave with you.
