When my kids were small, we loved going to local farms to visit all of the animals. It was always extra special when we got to pet and feed the livestock. I loved watching the children's faces as they hesitantly put out their little hands full of feed. They would then burst into laughter as a goat or pig enthusiastically lapped up the offerings, tickling their hands in the process. These special memories fly by quickly, and I'm glad I got to experience these moments with my kids when they were young. If you and your littles are looking for a family-friendly farm where you can feed and pet the animals, Davis Farmland in Sterling is one of the best farms in Massachusetts to visit.
Davis Farmland is geared specifically for children ages two to seven years old. It is the largest endangered livestock sanctuary on the continent! More than 100 breeds of animals reside here. You and the kids will have so many unique opportunities to get up close with lots of different animals.
Goats, camels, alpacas, cows, chickens, and llamas are just some of the animals you can interact with. Kids (and adults) will have so much fun feeding, grooming, and snuggling the various livestock, which typically includes some baby animals. There are even opportunities to ride the ponies.
But the fun doesn’t end here. Davis Farmland also has great outdoor play areas where kids can move and climb. The swings, jump pad, slides, sand area, and ride-on trucks are so much fun. Kids will also have a blast mining for gems, operating the child-sized excavator, and digging for dinosaur bones.
There is also a cool child-size village called MooTown where kids can let their imagination run wild as they explore a pretend pizza shop, vet clinic, and ice cream store.
In the warm months, the farm also has a wonderful Play and Spray area where everyone can cool off at the end of the day, There is an inflatable water slide, a spray pad, water cannons, and an area where you can get covered in a vat full of bubbles.
Davis Farmland is a cashless facility. Also, be aware that the farm is strictly for children under 12 years of age (with a caregiver). However, there are special days when it is open to all ages.
The 21+ events look like they are so much fun.
Fall apple picking and the gigantic Davis Mega Maze are other farm activities you won’t want to miss. Both are scheduled to open in September.
