Have you ever noticed how spending time around animals can make us so much happier? While we all know about the joys of befriending domesticated animals, not everyone is aware of just how amazing farm animals are, too. Unfortunately, many farm animals suffer unspeakable abuse. The lucky few are rescued, finding sanctuary in such safe places as Star Gazing Farm in Maryland. If you love animals, you'll definitely want to visit this heartwarming sanctuary, where you can meet some of the furry, fuzzy, and feathered residents.
Star Gazing Farm, in Montgomery County, provides a loving, safe place for farm animals, rescued from abuse and neglect, to heal from their trauma and to live their happily ever after.
Each of the animals at Star Gazing Farm has their own story of survival and their own personality. Madison the sheep, for example, is a friendly soul, preferring companionship with humans rather than his fellow sheep.
Carmen the cow, on the other hand, is best buddies with Brandy, also a cow, and Ricardo, a sheep.
Dee Dee the donkey is particularly friendly, always willing to hang out for head rubs.
The sanctuary is home to all sorts of rescued animals - from alpacas and geese to pigs and goats.
Star Gazing Farms hosts public events throughout the year and welcomes guests on select Saturdays. If you're interested in a tour, send an email to: [email protected].
Even if you can't visit the farm sanctuary any time soon, you can still get involved. Annual sponsorships, starting at just $25, are available for all residents. Sponsoring an animal, who you get to pick, helps pay for their ongoing care.
If you'd like to get hands on, sign up to volunteer. All volunteers (ages 11 and older) go through an orientation. After you've completed orientation, you can help out on farm work days, usually on Saturdays.
