You have probably heard the word eclipse being mentioned quite a bit lately. That is because one of the most rare natural phenomenon is set to hit the country in the next few weeks. This is what you need to know if you’re in DC and want to see the solar eclipse.
The eclipse will take place on Monday, August 21st. It will travel across the country throughout the day and several states and cities will experience complete darkness.
Unfortunately, we will not experience a total solar eclipse in the DC area. However, the moon will cover about 81% of the sun in DC on the 21st.
The eclipse will pass through DC around 2:42 pm. You can see exact times using this tool. Wherever you look at the eclipse, be sure to wear protective glasses. You never want to view an eclipse without glasses.
You can pick solar glasses at The National Air and Space Museum. They will be having several different activities throughout the day including live streams of the event throughout the building.
The solar eclipse is a rare phenomenon. It’s the first time in 99 years that a total solar eclipse will cross the country. You won't want to miss it!
You can learn more about the Great American Eclipse on their website. Will you be watching the eclipse?
