It's filled to the brim with history, natural sights, and is one of the most unique parks we've come across. Read on to learn why Sang Run State Park deserves to be on your radar.
Traveling west? Then Sang Run State Park is likely on the way.
This is one pit stop you won't mind taking.
The Maryland Park Service actually acquired the land 2002, but it wasn't until September 2017 that it was officially designated as a state park.
So what sets Sang Run State Park apart from the rest? For starters, it's home to historic buildings like this old country store. Decades ago, this structure was used to sell basic goods and trade for the locals. It was also a post office until the 1970s.
Today, you can purchase old-fashioned penny candy, soda, and souvenirs. Bring the kids!
There's also this historic onsite building, which used to be an election house. Sang run residents would vote on local elections, dating all the way back to the 1870s.
What an amazing piece of history to have nestled among nature.
The natural gem of this park the beautiful Youghiogheny River. You'll have access to enjoy fishing along this spot, or simply take in the water views along the local hiking trails.
Oh, and don't forget about the surrounding mountain sights! You are in western Maryland, after all.
