Nothing gives you the feeling of being transported to the French countryside like a visit to an authentic lavender farm. You may not have realized that Virginia is not only home to one of these fragrant sites, just outside Washington D.C. Whether you're looking for an escape from the city or want to pick your own lavender to make lavender syrup for lemonades and lattes as we did, Seven Oaks Lavender Farm is a breathtaking day trip destination in the summer months.
Seven Oaks Lavender Farm is a family-owned farm located in Catlett, Virginia, an hour outside of Washington DC.
During lavender season in the summer, which typically takes place early June through mid-July, but is weather dependent, you can visit the farm to enjoy gorgeous purple perfumed flowers and enjoy a peaceful summer day.
The farm opened as a "pick-your-own" lavender experience in 2005. Visitors from all over have visited this corner of Virginia to learn about the process of lavender growing and all of its amazing benefits.
Relax in the beautiful white gazebo in the heart of it all and take in the incredible fragrant smell while sipping on lavender lemonade or nibbling on a lavender lemon cupcake.
You can pick your own lavender flowers, as well as other flowers, during your visit to create the perfect bouquet when you return home. With both French and English lavender varieties, you can also use the lavender you harvest here in cooking!
The farm provides scissors, baskets, and rubber bands as well as paper towels and plastic bags for keeping flower stems damp if you wish.
The farm house on Lavender Farm was built in 1860. You can visit the shop year-round. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays during the off-season.
Inside the shop, you can purchase a wide variety of lavender products in the shop including jams, herbs, teas, potpourri, soap, bath salts, and satchels. It’s a great place to find unique gifts!
Guests are also welcome to bring their own picnics to enjoy on the grounds -- talk about a magnificent meal.
