When most people think of the Washington Monument, images of DC come to mind. Not many know that Maryland actually has its own Washington Monument, and this historic spot is worth a visit. Just wait until you see the view from this place!
You can find Washington Monument State Park at 6620 Zittlestown Rd, Middletown, MD 21769.
This scenic spot is nestled along the Appalachian Trail, so there are plenty of hiking opportunities available in the area.
But what this state park is most known for is this peculiar looking structure, known as the Washington Monument.
The monument was originally constructed in 1827 in honor of George Washington.
Several historical signs are also located throughout the area, providing a timeline of Washington's life, from birth, to accomplishments, to death.
You may be surprised to learn that this monument isn't just for looks.
You can enter this structure by walking up the narrow staircase.
Reach the top and you're greeted with a breathtaking view!
You may want to bring your camera to capture the memory, but beware as it gets quite windy up here.
Take in the sights of rolling hills, mountains, and rural farmlands that stretch for miles.
And to enhance your experience even more, stay until just before sunset.
