You don't have to travel far for great hiking trails. Check out the following 10 spots in and around Baltimore that are perfect when you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Each place offers something different and they're all worth visiting at least once.
1. Patapsco Valley State Park
This sprawling park covers parts of Baltimore and Howard County, offering several different areas to explore. We recommend checking out Grist Mill Trail, which has swinging bridges and the nearby Cascade Falls.
2. Druid Hill Park
This Baltimore park has several attractions, including the Maryland Zoo, Botanic Gardens, and more. It's a great place to hike around as you discover quirky objects at every turn.
3. Loch Raven Reservoir
This beautiful reservoir offers a variety of trails, most of which feature stunning water views. It's especially picturesque during autumn.
4. Jones Falls Trail
This trail passes by several area attractions including Cylburn Arboretum and Druid Hill Park. With so many stops along the way, you could certainly make a day out of exploring this trail.
5. Stony Run Park
This park in the city offers a serene walking path, complete with a babbling brook. Escape the hustle and bustle without having to leave Baltimore.
6. Double Rock Park
This scenic park offers a 1.6 mile loop. Take in the watery views and be sure to visit during springtime to witness the pops of wildflowers.
7. Liberty Reservoir
Another Baltimore area reservoir is this charming spot. Some of the trails can be a bit hilly but the effort is worth it for the stunning scenery.
8. Cromwell Valley Park
Just outside of Baltimore you'll find this pretty spot in Parkville. It offers short and sweet trails and is a popular place for bird watching.
9. Herring Run Park
Many come here for the greenery as well as the ruins. With a mix of natural and man-made sites, this park is great for a diverse hike.
10. Gwynns Falls Trail
This nearly 11-mile long trail offers a variety of sights along the way. The trail is well marked and is perfect for a day of outdoor adventure.
