DC is a city that is known for having plenty of gorgeous green space and in the fall, that green turns into gorgeous reds, oranges and yellows. For a city that is known for being a spring destination, we certainly get to enjoy our fair share of beauty in the fall.
If you’re planning your fall activities and wondering when’s the best time to take your camera out to capture the changing leaves, we have you covered. The experts at Smoky Mountains created a cool interactive map for when the best leaf peeping moments will occur in the district.
As you can see in this first image, the leaves are just now starting to turn a little.
For the most part, we still seem to be surrounded by greenery but you’ve probably noticed some scattering of leaves on a few blocks around the city.
By next week, the green will have decreased even more and more and more trees will be showing off their best fall foliage colors.
You’ll definitely be noticing more leaves on the ground and less greenery around the city coming up soon!
The first week of October is when we’ll be enjoying peak fall foliage season in DC.
This is when you need to be planning your trips to Skyline Drive or walking around the Mall or the National Arboretum to see fall in its true beauty.
It’s hard to say exactly how accurate this map is but it’s fun to see how the changes in the seasons sneak up on us and it’s always good to plan for fall fun.
You can use Smoky Mountain's interactive tool to find peak foliage all over the country here.
If you are planning your fall, be sure to add these 8 fall day trips during the peak foliage season!
