However, this doesn’t make them any less beautiful! Just one stroll around Triadelphia Reservoir in Maryland and you’re sure to see what I mean. Located near Brookeville, this 800-acre Maryland lake is so unbelievably stunning that it looks as if it had been ripped straight out of a painting.

Triadelphia Reservoir was created in 1943 when the Brighton Dam was constructed on the Patuxent River. The reservoir was named after the town of Triadelphia, which was abandoned by 1905 and is currently under the lake.
The resulting lake has a surface area of 800 acres, and it holds over 6 billion gallons of drinking water for residents of Howard and Montgomery Counties! But of course that’s not the only reason this reservoir is so popular.
Triadelphia Reservoir is regularly stocked with fish during the season, so feel free to cast your own line and join in on the famous blue heron’s favorite pastime!
There’s also an eight-mile out-and-back trail that runs alongside the reservoir, perfect for a mid-morning hike on a sunny autumn weekend. The Patuxent River Valley is full of little brooks like this one…
