Sand does not a beach make — and Jasper Beach in Maine is proof. A hidden gem worth seeking out, the secluded beach doesn’t contain one grain of sand. Yep, you read that right — no sand. But you won't miss it in the least bit since the beach is filled with millions of smooth, multi-colored rocks instead. Read on to learn more about this idyllic rock-covered oasis and why it's one of our favorite hidden beaches in Maine.
A true hidden gem worth seeking out, Jasper Beach is remotely located at the end of a peninsula in Machiasport.
Uniquely and utterly beautiful, the beach is without sandy shores. Instead, it’s covered in millions of smooth stones.
Quite the sight, the stones come in just about every size, shape, and color imaginable.
Not only eye-catching, the rock-covered beach is somewhat rare. There are only a handful of beaches sans sand in the country.
But the rocky shoreline isn’t just appealing in appearance. The stones have been dubbed singing rocks, since they create a slightly melodic tone when moved about by the crashing waves.
One of the most peaceful and serene places in the region, locals and tourists alike visit the beach to admire its beauty, more specifically its unique shoreline.
Part of a park, Jasper Beach is open to the public and free to visit. Remember, taking the rocks is prohibited, so leave them on the beach where they belong.
