With a raging winter and only a few months of summer, Maine isn't exactly known for its water park options. We have some great ones, but after a few summers of the same thing over and over again these can start to make summer feel like a repeat of the year before. But, look out Mainers who love water parks! We've found an awesome hidden option to add to this year's day trips!
Outlet Beach has been a beloved staple to the community since 1930.
The small, family-owned beach can be found on the northern side of Sabbathday Lake in New Gloucester.
But, this is not like other Maine lakes.
This one is equipped with all the things you need for fun water activities without the lines that come with the commercial spots.
There are small slides and a diving board for kids.
As well as larger ones for those who are ready to take a bigger plunge.
You can do just about anything lake-related here as long as you can dream it up!
For a little background, this is where the Royal River begins, ultimately emptying out into the Atlantic Ocean in Yarmouth.
The small and private nature of this park means there is no lifeguard, so be very careful!
And maybe our favorite thing is that Bresca and the Honey Bee is located at the park!
Food is served Wednesday through Sunday between 11am and 4pm.
You won't find your typical greasy lakeside lunch at this modest snack shack on Sabbathday Lake.
It's run by James Beard Award-nominated chef Krista Kern Desjarlais, former chef/owner of Portland's Bresca, where she's slinging gourmet hot dogs, sandwiches and more to hungry beachgoers all summer. On the menu: Alsace Dog - bockwurst, sauerkraut, violet mustard, beer jelly. Visit them at 106 Outlet Road, New Gloucester / 207-926-3388.
It's worth the visit even if you don't plan on going to the beach.
This wonderful lakeside water park is also located near Sabbath Day Shaker Village.
The village is located on 1,800 acres of farm and forest land and includes seventeen historic structures dated from between 1780 and 1950. It's the only existing Shaker Village in the world!
Whatever your reasons for heading to the area, be sure to make a day of it!
