It doesn't matter what season we're in, Mainers love coming up with ideas for activities to do in winter, spring, summer, and fall. That means our bucket lists are always full of things to enjoy outside. Of course, we've got our favorite hikes, beaches, and festivals but we're also trying to explore more farms and outdoor local businesses this year. Near the top of the list? This farm!
Welcome to Glendarragh Farm, located along the St. George River in Appleton.
In addition to being the home of one of the largest lavender farms in the region, this farm dates back to 1822, which means it also comes with some Maine history. It was once home to animals such as cows and chickens that sustained the farmers who lived and worked here.
While this is considered a working farm, they invite folks to visit during their harvest season as well as planned days throughout the summer. This is a great way to learn more about the farm and about how lavender is cultivated and used.
All of the lavender that’s grown here is also dried in a post-and-beam barn. It’s then used for a variety of products such as soaps, treats and even liquor!
The Glendarragh Lavender Farm has two locations. The farm is in Appleton and their year-round store is in Camden. Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days.
