One could certainly argue that each and every trail and path in Maine are beautiful and worth the visit. We completely agree! But each one also comes with a different element of beauty. Some offer sweeping ocean views from the coast. Others come with forest canopies that are so green visitors might feel like they're in a movie. Most offer a great way to clear the mind and enjoy the breeze. The one featured here is no different. In addition to lots of beauty, this hike will lead to some stunning wildflowers.
Alewive Woods Preserve in Kennebunk offers a fantastic way to enjoy fresh Maine air as well as forest and ponds. But we love it for one additional reason!
If you visit in the spring or early summer the area has the added bonus of offering walkers and hikers some unexpected wildflowers.
The preserve is more than 625 acres and the pond in the center is about 45 acres. That means there's lots of room for exploration.
There are 2.5 miles of trail here, including the Alewive Preserve Loop which includes the pond.
The route, which is well-marked, can get a bit uneven in places. There are also some exposed roots, so you'll want to be sure you're confident on your feet if you choose to explore this route.
The wildflowers can be found all along the trail. While they're not everywhere, the fact that you'll need to keep your eyes open to find them makes it even more fun.
This is one of our favorite walking and hiking trails for that reason.
Furry friends will name this trail as their favorite for other reasons, though! There are lots of places for them to play.
The loop will lead you right back to your starting point, so all you need to do is enjoy your time in the woods.
Alewive Woods Preserve can be accessed throughout the year, but always be cautious when walking or hiking in the winter as there may be ice and snow. The elevation gain here is minimal, so beginners will enjoy this. Don't forget the pups! They're welcome here as long as they're kept on a leash. For more information check out the Kennebunk Land Trust website. You can learn more about hitting the trails on Maine Trail Finder or alltrails.com.
For the type of outdoor beauty that comes with water views take a walk or ride alongside the ocean on the 1.5-mile Bar Harbor Shore path in Maine.
