For those who thought hiking was on hold until the Spring, we have an option that is sure to excite you!
Head to Blue Hill for a beautiful and easy hike the park at Blue Hill Mountain in the snow.
The route, which is only about 2 miles, comes with minimal elevation gain and should keep you busy for about 1.5 hours.
You'll likely come across tracks made by cross-country skiers and snowshoers.
Of the two main trails, we recommend starting with the Osgood Trail.
Here's how to find it!
Head to Blue Hill Mountain and park in the Osgood Parking lot. Across the street you'll find the entrance, along with the well-marked trail head.
After crossing a small bridge, you'll begin the steepest portion of the trail to get it out of the way!
Next, you'll hit another bridge. After that make sure to stay left to stay on the Osgood Trail.
Soon you'll be heading downhill where you'll head up the large rock face to see...
...the first view of the larger area from the trail!
Once you reach the the top you'll see a sign directing you to go down the mountain (a left turn) or up the mountain (a right turn.) You'll want to keep heading up!
Keep on going until you reach the flat portion of the top — YOU'VE MADE IT!
Enjoy the views and then take the same trail down to the start.
And, for those who DO prefer to hibernate during the winter, this park is still wonderful at other times of year.
After you've worked up a sweat, you'll probably be hungry. We recently made a list of the foods we think every Mainer craves when they leave. These foods are the best place to start if you want a truly Maine meal!
