We love the Rines Forest Trail in Maine. While it’s beautiful all year long, this place is fun to visit in the winter, as it's actually intended to be used primarily when things are frozen. Part of a 216-acre woodland, the Rines Forest features a variety of land types. Much of it is wet throughout the year, so when it's frozen conditions are ideal. But we still love to visit in the warmer months, too!

3. Winter Wonderland Trail, Acadia National Park
This trail, located in Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, is just over 1.5 miles long. The out and back route is considered great for beginners. This is a great kid-friendly hike in Maine to complete all year round.

4. Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge, Caribou
There are over 5 miles of trails here and each is lovely. They're focused around Chapman Pond and Greenlaw Brook, which means the views along the way no matter which route you choose is going to be lovely. There are three distinct trail heads and each trail is maintained and relatively flat, making these hikes great for beginners and kids. 8. Morse Mountain to Seawall Beach, Phippsburg
This trail is big on views but small on actual effort necessary. And we all know that sea views might just be the best way to get some calm and clarity. At 3.8 miles it might be one of the longer routes on this list, but the fact that it's mostly paved makes it great for taking it easy. The trailhead is found within the Bates-Morse Mountain Conservation Area in Maine.
