One of the most distinctive scents is that of the lavender plant. Lavender is originally believed to be from India, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean and it's got quite a history! Experts believe it's somewhere around 2,500 years old! There are tons of different uses for the plant, from beauty products to decoration. We love it having it around, but we also love seeing it out in the wild. Today we're focused on a farm that can be visited from May through August and you'll want to check it out as a fun day trip.
Moore Manor in Newport got its start in 2014 when Peggy and Doug Moore planted 250 lavender plants simply to see if they'd grow in the region.
They certainly did! The Moore family followed the first planting of 250 with an additional 750 in 2015.
In 2017 the Moores opened the farm to visitors to come and enjoy the thriving farm.
They also began making products out of their lavender, selling them on their website, in their gift cottage, and at craft fairs throughout the region.
By 2018 more than 1,500 people were visiting the farm during the season.
In addition to seeing the plants on the farm, visitors are invited to check out the cottage filled with dried plants.
Today, guests are still invited to visit at no cost. There are seating areas throughout the seven acres of farmland and guest are invited to bring a picnic lunch or book to enjoy it.
This is also where the farm has products for sale. Everything here makes for great gifts, so it's a wonderful place to stock up for upcoming birthdays and holidays.
The farm is open from May to August, but also takes on special appointments for those who'd like to visit outside those times.
Come for a visit, stay for a while and leave refreshed by the goodness of lavender!
Moore Manor Lavender is open to visitors free of charge from May through August. Visitors are able to cut their own lavender during portions of the season.
