There's a lot less snow on the ground than there was a few months ago and every so often it feels as though a warm breeze MIGHT just blow through the air. While we might not be there yet, spring might actually be heading our way! In addition to the warm days thrown in between the cold ones, there are other signs of spring. The most obvious? Mainers are starting to display the tell-tale signs that they're ready for winter to end. Here are just some of the often strange things Mainers do at the first sign of Spring!
1. Immediately begin acting like it's summer.
The temp crept above 50? Tan time!
2. Start dreaming of summer food.
We went an entire, dark, long, cold winter without any lobster rolls. It's time to see the light again.
3. Immediately open every.single.window.
We've been cooped up long enough! Let that breeze (even if it's freezing) blow freely!
4. Begin mentally preparing for construction season.
When winter ends, the traffic problems are only just beginning. It takes work to repair the havoc that mother nature can wreak in just a few months in Maine.
5. Start tending to the garden!
The ground might be hard, but it's never too early!
6. Take advantage of the snow.
There's still some out there and now that we know it's going away, we start appreciating it! At least until next winter.
7. Take stock of all the Maine treats we ate all winter.
While there are zero regrets here, there's a slow realization that we'll need to hit a few extra trails this spring to get back to optimal health.
8. Over prepare for tick season!
At the first signs of green, we never leave the house without those tiny abominations in mind. Be prepared folks! Especially in early spring when the nymphs are out. They're smaller than a poppy seed and easily missed by the naked eye.
9. Start planning out trips upta camp.
It might not be time just yet, but soon enough! Just have to get through days like this!
10. Actually start appreciating all that extra time with the kids on snow days.
They might have meant some cabin fever and the need for imaginatively thinking up new activities, but awww... the kids were cute those days.
11. Unearth all the things covered by snow all winter.
Bet you completely forgot about some of this stuff!
12. Take mud boot inventory
There's no avoiding it. With spring comes the mud and with that mud comes the need for plenty of boots.
13. Start appreciating the beauty of Maine all over again.
She really is a beaut in the spring!
