If you're up for an adventure, then consider heading across the lake for this amazing trail. Winding through five towns and through some beautiful scenery along the way, there's definitely no other trail quite like it near New Orleans. Let's take a closer look.
Winding through five towns in St. Tammany Parish, the Tammany Trace is Louisiana’s only rail-to-trail conversion.
In 1992, the St. Tammany Parish government purchased the abandoned Illinois Central Railroad corridor and began asphalting the trail and remodeling the railroad trestles into pedestrian bridges.
The 31 mile trace will take you on an adventure like no other as you make your way through Covington, Mandeville, Abita Springs, Lacombe and Slidell.
The paved path is perfect for bicycling, rollerblading, or just a casual stroll.
And you’ll have some beautiful scenery along the way. There’s also an equestrian trail that runs along portions of the trail in case you wanted to bring your horse on an unforgettable adventure.
And the best part of the trail is that, in case you didn't want to do all 31 miles, you can park at one of the trailheads and just go at your own pace.
Pick a city and start at one trailhead and then keep coming back to experience them all.
