While finding a good hotel pool to go swimming at is essential for surviving a New Orleans summer, there's also a few options for swimming in nature that will bring a smile to your face. Bogue Chitto State Park is one of those places. Dipping yourself into this river will connect you back to nature in a way that is sure to relax you and rejuvenate you!
Bogue Chitto State Park is definitely one of the most spectacular places to go swimming in the greater New Orleans area.
You can find the park and swimming access by driving to Franklinton, LA, which is past Covington and Mandeville off of I-12. Take US 190 N to Highway 25, and the entrance will be 20 miles on the right.
The beach and shallow waters at the river are perfect to cool off in during the summer months.
The park is open daily and costs $2 to get in.
The crystal clear waters will keep you coming back again and again.
And there are some very interesting landforms on the trails here---including Fricke's Cave, offering unique sandstone spires and pebbles rare in Louisiana.
Canoeing and Kayaking are also great options on the waters here.
And of course, seeing some spectacular wildlife!
Here, the Eastern Fence Lizard losing his old skin to make way for the new!
There's also awesome fishing available here.
