Gardens and fields all across Louisiana bloom with brightly colored wildflowers in the spring. Grab your camera, because we've picked out some of the most popular gardens, trails, and flower fields in Louisiana that simply come alive this time of year, and you're not going to want to miss them.
1. Wild Azalea Trail
At roughly 31 miles in length, the Wild Azalea Trail holds the honor of being the longest continuous trail in the state. This point-to-point trail begins at the Valentine Lake Recreation Area near Garner and ends at the Woodworth Town Hall. Designated a National Recreation Trail due to its incredible scenic value, it offers hikers a chance to be surrounded by beautiful wild azaleas when they’re in bloom.
2. Jungle Gardens
The Jungle Gardens on Avery Island is truly a sight to see. The 170-acre semi-tropical garden is nestled along Bayou Petite Anse, offering visitors a chance to see wildlife along their garden stroll. The rolling landscape gives way to abundant flowers, including azaleas, camellias, Louisiana irises, and many others. You’ll find Jungle Gardens along Hwy. 329 on Avery Island, LA.
3. Rip Van Winkle Gardens
Located in New Iberia, the Rip Van Winkle Gardens simply come alive this time of year. The gorgeous 15-acres of semi-tropical gardens will dazzle your senses as you stroll through.
4. Wildflower Fields at City Park
You can find the wildflower fields at City Park in New Orleans between Roosevelt Mall and Marconi, and they are simply beautiful when in bloom. The oranges, yellows, and pinks really light up what is already a beautiful park.
5. LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens
Featuring five miles of walking paths that will lead you through multiple gardens, the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens are a must-see this spring. From the stone camellia collection to the 150-acre bottomland hardwood forest, you’re sure to have a peaceful experience at this beautiful garden.
6. Azalea Trail
During springtime, the city of Lafayette turns into the city of azaleas, and you can follow the trail all around the city to catch a glimpse of these beautiful bushes. The roughly 20-mile trail will lead you through the city’s historic district and surrounding areas where these azalea bushes display incredible colors and beauty.
7. Houmas House and Gardens
This popular plantation over in Darrow is well-known for its truly mesmerizing gardens. The 38-acre display at the Houmas House features both exotic and native plants that put on quite a colorful show in the springtime.
8. Kiroli Park
Perhaps the best hidden gem in Louisiana, Kiroli Park features 150 acres of beautiful, natural scenery to explore. The nature trails will lead you through some spectacular landscapes, including numerous gardens.
9. Briarwood Nature Preserve
Once the home of renowned botanist Caroline Dormon, this lovely space is dedicated to preserving the indigenous plant life in the area. On your tour at the Briarwood Nature Preserve, you’ll learn about the importance of these wildflowers and their contribution to our ecosystems. You'll come across beautiful Louisiana irises, wild azaleas, coral beans, and countless others.
