Have you ever seen snowfall in New Orleans? Every now and then, it happens. In 2008, one of the biggest snowfalls happened in the city. You have to see these photos to believe it!
On December 11, 2008, a snowstorm came to New Orleans.
This was just four years after the epic snowfall on Christmas that gave New Orleanians a white Christmas for the first time ever.
Of course, that white Christmas was followed by one of the worst Hurricane seasons of all time, so there was some rumors that the snow might have brought on the storms.
But when this snow of 2008 fell, everyone was just charmed, and the hurricane season of 2009 was not terrible. This snow on the lions in City Park's Peristyle is really something special.
Unlike the tepid little sleet and snowfalls that New Orleans has experienced in the past, the 2008 snowfall was pretty robust.
And of course, it basically shut down all of New Orleans for a day or two.
We have snow so rarely in the city, we just aren't sure how to deal with it when it comes.
Power was out for a lot of folks, and the roads were hard to travel down for quite a while.
Seeing snow decorating New Orleans was really a special experience for everyone who was there.
Over 1.5 inches of snow was recorded in the area--more than ever before.
So if you are ever upset about how warm this whole winter has been...remember that every now and then, a snow does come to New Orleans.
And it can be beautiful...or hard to deal with!
