Spending even just an hour outside can work wonders for the soul. When the urge to explore strikes, there are countless trails peppered throughout Louisiana that are just waiting to be explored. Here are just a few of our favorites:
1. Black Swamp Trail
The Black Swamp Trail at the LSU Botanical Gardens is just over 2 miles long and is great for all ages. There are several educational placards along the way, making this a great adventure for both kids and adults.
2. Driskill Mountain Trail
Perhaps one of the most unique trails in Louisiana, this 2-mile trail will take you straight to the top of the highest natural summit in Louisiana, Driskill Mountain. At 535 feet in elevation, it’s not much of a mountain, but hey, it’s all we’ve got.
3. Stoner Trail
This lovely little loop trail will take you along the Red River in Shreveport, offering beautiful views of the river. The trail is about 2.5 miles in length and good for both hiking and mountain biking, so feel free to bring your bike.
4. White Tail Trail
For a beautiful waterfront trail, head on oner to Lake Claiborne State Park. The White Tail Trail is a 2.6-mile loop trail that features beautiful views of the lake and tons of shade from the tall pines nearby.
5. Mandalay Nature Trail
The Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge is nearly 5,000 acres of beautiful freshwater marsh and cypress-tupelo swamps. The nature trail is less than a mile, but this short and sweet hike will show you some of the most beautiful natural landscaping in Louisiana.
6. Monkey Trail
Monkey Trail is located in Keithville and is perfect for nature lovers. Depending on the time of year you visit, you could see tons of wildflowers along the trail, plus you’ll hear the symphony of sounds from the chimpanzees nearby.
7. Black Bayou Lake Nature Trail
Head on over to Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge for a delightful little nature stroll. The nature trail is about 1.2 miles and great for families with kids of all ages.
8. Restoration Park Trail
The Restoration Park Trail in West Monroe is about 1.5 miles long and great for anyone looking to get a little nature walk in without leaving the city.
9. Acadiana Nature Station Loop
Acadiana Park Nature Center has several trails that will lead you on a breathtaking journey through nature. This one is an easy loop trail that’s less than two miles long and great for kids, who will love getting to spot the wildlife.
