There are so many scenic trails in Louisiana, it’s hard to keep track. No matter where you live, you’re generally not that far away from a delightfully scenic nature trail that will positively enchant you. Next time you’re in the mood for an outdoor adventure filled with some of Louisiana’s most beautiful natural scenery, venture over to Sam Houston Jones State Park.
Established in 1944, Sam Houston Jones State Park is one of the highlights in the Lake Charles area.
Clocking in at 1,087 acres, there’s certainly no shortage of space to sprawl out on.
Featuring a diverse landscape of woodlands, lakes, river, and lagoons, it’s a nature lover’s paradise.
It’s a great place to do a little fishing or kayaking down the waterways.
The whole family will enjoy a visit to this oasis.
Of course while you’re there, you’ll want to explore the trails.
There are five hiking trails at the park. Together that’s over eight miles of trails that will take you on quite the enchanting journey.
With the exception of the Longleaf Pine Trail (3.5 miles) all of the trails are under two miles long, so you can easily mix and match the trails to fit your schedule.
Along the way you’ll encounter some of the most beautiful scenery Louisiana has to offer.
The park is home to more than 70 acres of longleaf pines, which are the oldest living southern pine species.
You’ll be surrounded by beautiful cypress knees, towering trees, and the sights and sounds of songbirds up above.
And you’re bound to spot some wildlife while you’re there. In addition to the usual swamp critters like alligators and turtles, you’ll probably come across some of the park’s resident deer!
After your hike, pull up a chair and enjoy the view. You earned it!
