One of the many perks to living in a city that's so close to the water is all the mesmerizing water views. New Orleans has countless waterfront restaurants that are a picture-perfect spot to dine, as well as many cabins, RV parks, and waterfront parks. This one particular riverview park in New Orleans is often overlooked, but certainly worth a visit. Today we are headed over to the other side of Audubon Park to a delightful little green space that's perfect for either a family outing or some solo rest and relaxation.
You’ll find Butterfly Riverview Park tucked behind the Audubon Zoo.
More commonly known as "The Fly," this waterfront portion of Audubon Park is a great spot to take a break from it all and enjoy the beautiful views.
Most people have forgotten the reference, but the park was actually named for the butterfly-shaped river viewing shelter that was built in the 1960s but torn down in the 1980s.
It’s pretty common to see groups of friend tossing a frisbee, enjoying a picnic lunch, or just sitting around enjoying a casual conversation.
The park provides ample green space, recreational fields, restrooms, and playgrounds.
It’s a picture-perfect spot to sit back with a good book while watching the ships pass along the river.
Many people gather at dusk to watch the sunset over the Mighty Mississippi.
The sunset views are some of the best in the city, and certainly worth clearing your schedule to witness.
The Fly is open to the public seven days a week from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Address: 6500 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA, 70118
