City life is great, but sometimes you just need to break away for a bit and trade the concrete for some more lush surroundings. When the urge to explore strikes, there's one beautiful little slice of paradise across the lake that's worthy of a road trip, and that's the Northlake Nature Center. They've got some of the most peaceful trails near New Orleans, and it's the perfect spot to explore on a sunny afternoon. Let's take a closer look.
Tucked away in the heart of St. Tammany Parish, the Northlake Nature Center is a beautiful oasis, ideal for anyone looking to escape the ordinary for a few hours.
Nestled along Bayou Castine, the Northlake Nature Center features 400 acres of some of Louisiana’s most breathtaking natural scenery.
The boardwalk trails allow you unique access to these wetlands that you wouldn’t be able to see any other way.
And it’s a great option for a family outing with kids of all ages.
Throughout your walk, you’ll be lead through three different ecosystems: a hardwood forest, a pine-hardwood forest, and a pond-swamp.
There are several trails at the nature center, each one offering unique views and wildlife viewing opportunities.
The views at this hidden gem are absolutely mesmerizing. There are benches peppered throughout the nature center, so you can sit for a spell and take it all in.
And they're always hosting new events and educational programs for both kids and adults.
