Are you looking for a journey outside of the normal world? New Orleans is a place where it is essential to relax and rejuvenate after all of the pressures of the day to day. That's why you are going to want to discover Couturie Forest.
City Park is truly one of New Orleans' crown jewels. But with all of the exciting attractions, did you realize there is over a mile of nature trails in the park?
Known as Couturie Forest, this 60 acre area in the park is hands down one of my absolute favorites.
Found between Marconi and Wisner on Harrison Ave., you will find parking off of Harrison in front of the soccer fields.
This map shows all of the various trails you can walk around on when you arrive here.
What's so cool about all the little trails that interweave with the central ones is you can wander for quite a while here and always find new things.
Near the center of the forest is a small hill, where there is a beautiful meeting area.
So much beautiful nature can be found here, from large scale oak trees to cypress to camphor trees (which smell delicious).
In the spring, this is a popular place for people to visit to pick the plentiful dewberries that grow here. They are a close relative to blackberries, with just a slightly more sour taste.
In recent years, more and more investment has been put into this part of the park, including the installation of this beautiful bridge.
It's a great way to enter into the forest--and perfect for photo opportunities.
One of the most beautiful aspects of this area is the birds. It's a very important migratory bird stop for many species.
So when you need a dip into nature but don't have time to drive away from the city's center, check out this gorgeous gem hidden in City Park.
