Bogue Chitto State Park is one of the most beautiful state parks near New Orleans. The 1,786-acre park is chock full of some of the most stunning scenery in the state, including cypress-tupelo swamps, a hardwood forest, rolling hills, and dynamic river systems.
When you want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, Bogue Chitto State Park is just the ticket.
It'll take you just over an hour to get there, and it's worth every mile.
The Gorge Run Trail is just shy of six miles and is ideal for a day of outdoor adventure.
Depending on the time of year you visit, your path may be lined with an endless array of wildflowers.
Spring or summer is your best bet for florals.
No matter when you visit, you're sure to be mesmerized by the scenery.
The trail is fairly easy, but there are some smaller hills and a bit of an elevation gain, so keep that in mind.
The whole family will love this trail, even your fur baby! Dogs are allowed on the trail, just be sure to keep them leashed. And if you've got a horse, even better! The park does have several miles of equestrian trails for you and your gentle giant to traverse.
Along the trail, you'll catch glimpses of the Bogue Chitto River.
Find yourself a little patch of sand to pull up and take in the view.
You could sit for hours just watching the current.
You'll also have a lovely soundtrack of the symphony of sounds from the wildlife nearby.
