You’ll find Fairview Riverside State Park across the lake in Madisonville, Louisiana.
At 99 acres, it’s the 2nd smallest state park in Louisiana. But don’t let it’s small size fool you, there are still tons of activities at this park.
Set along the banks of the Tchefuncte River, this charming little park is full of outdoor activities.
Not only are there 100 campsites if you wanted to spend the weekend amidst some beautiful scenery, but it’s also a popular spot for water sports and fishing.
There’s a nature trail that has some remarkable views of the river.
Keep an eye out for wildlife! Owls, otters, turtles, and many other creatures have been spotted.
When you enter the park, you can't help but notice this massive house.
That's the Otis House.
Built in 1885 by William Theodore Jay, who owned a sawmill near the property. He sold the house and the sawmill to the Houlton brothers in 1906, and the area became known as Houltonville and included a general store, a post office, and about 250 sawmill workers.
Frank Otis purcahsed the property in 1936 and used the residence as his summer home until his death in 1962. After he died, he left the house and the 99 acres of land to the state, requesting it be used for public recreation.
With views like this, it's completely worth the drive across the Causeway.
