You don’t have to travel far from New Orleans to surround yourself with nature, and sometimes we all need to check out and just spend some time underneath the shade of towering pine trees and majestic oaks. While you certainly can’t go wrong with spending the day at popular parks like Audubon or City Park, there are plenty of lovely parks peppered throughout New Orleans that you’re sure to love. Mix things up a bit and cross over the river where you’ll find Brechtel Park, an ideal park the whole family will enjoy.
Welcome to Brechtel Park, a delightfully scenic park nestled on the West Bank in Algiers that's worth the drive from downtown.
Once part of the Bayou Barataria-Terrebone Estuary, the area was drained by the city in 1915 to prevent another outbreak of yellow fever.
The park was opened in the early 1970s, and has been a favorite for locals ever since. With views like this, it's easy to see why!
The 110-acre park is the perfect slice of paradise to visit when you need some peace and quiet.
The park is a habitat for many different species of birds including ducks, egrets, pelicans, and more.
There’s also a nature path that will take you through an enchanting sea of emerald green as you wander throughout the canopies of live oaks, pine trees, maples, and cypress.
The playground is always a hit with the kids.
And the little ones will love seeing all of the wildlife in the area.
Brechtel Park is open daily from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m.
