Spring has sprung, and we're already beginning to see flowers bloom all over the city. Next time you have a few hours to spare, head on over to these botanical gardens over in City Park for a truly mesmerizing experience.
Tucked away in the heart of City Park, the New Orleans Botanical Garden will dazzle your senses.
Originally established at the City Park Rose Garden in 1936, it was renamed the New Orleans Botanical Garden in the early 1980’s.
The 10-acre park features more than 2,000 varieties of plants from around the world.
When in season, visitors have the opportunity to view roses, native plants, perennials, tropical plants, water lilies, and so much more.
The garden features several different themed gardens.
Casually stroll from the tropical rain forest to an authentic Japanese Garden and then over to the butterfly walk for a truly mesmerizing experience.
Things are always blooming at different times, making this the perfect year-round attraction.
Right now, visitors can expect to see azaleas, honeysuckle, poppies, petunias, violas, and many more. The Chinese Fringe Tree is also in bloom and is always a beautiful sight. The roses tend to bloom in April, but you may see some early bloomers if you visit now.
The garden also features several sculptures by Enrique Alferez.
The sculptures along with the water features truly make this a peaceful paradise right in the middle of the city.
Be sure to pop in the Stove House and Dungeons.
Featuring a huge collection of cacti and succulents, this is one sight that cannot be missed.
The garden is open seven days a week from 10AM-5pm
It’s $8 per adult, but on Wednesdays they offer free admission for Louisiana residents, just be sure to bring your ID.
