Drive just about an hour north of New Orleans and you'll be immersed in some of the most beautiful natural landscape Louisiana has to offer. Whether you're planning on making a weekend out of it, or just a quick day trip, the hiking and equestrian trails at this state park are truly spectacular and you need to check them out.
Located in Franklinton, Louisiana, Bogue Chitto State Park is a nature lover’s paradise.
This 1,786-acre park has plenty of activities to keep you occupied including kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, and disc golf just to name a few.
As you may have guessed, the park is nestled up against the Bogue Chitto River.
During the summer months, tubing and swimming the river is quite popular.
There are also eleven different lakes, each one stocked with fish.
So bring your pole and see if you can snag some dinner.
For a truly epic weekend, bring your tent and spend the night under the stars.
The weather is perfect for it! Sitting out by the fire roasting marshmallows, sounds delightful, right?
And during the day you can explore the state park’s beautiful hiking trails.
The Gorge Run Trail is about seven miles and includes some steep terrain and beautiful scenery along the way. There are also fourteen miles of equestrian trails to explore, so bring your gentle giant for some outdoor adventure.
Great for both hikers and bikers, the Gorge Run Trail is a great way to spend the afternoon.
One of the main attractions on the trail is Frickes Cave. Resembling more of a gorge than a cave, it's created when water erodes the surface underneath the pebbles and rocks, forming delicate sandstone spires. Since they’re too fragile to walk on, boardwalks have been built so visitors can still view them.
