Boardwalk trails are great options when you need to get in some nature time because they offer a glimpse into parts of the bayous and marsh that you wouldn't be able to see any other way. This particular boardwalk trail in New Orleans is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Fench Quarter and promises some truly incredible scenic views. Located within New Orleans city limits, Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge has 23,000 acres to explore and is the largest urban wildlife refuge in the country.
When it comes to getting in some nature time near new Orleans, Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful option.
For wildlife viewing, there’s no better place. The refuge is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including alligators, turtles, and white-tailed deer. The refuge is also home to over 350 species of birds throughout the year.
Visitors can access the refuge by foot, paddling, or boating. The hiking trail is an easy way to see this beautiful natural oasis without having to bring your kayak/boat along.
The Ridge Trail is located off of Hwy. 90 just two miles west of the Hwy. 11/Hwy. 90 junction.
At the beginning of the trail near the parking lot you’ll find a pavilion with picnic benches and restrooms. Pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic lunch with some beautiful views.
The 1/2 mile looped interpretive boardwalk trail is great for families with kids of all ages.
As you stroll through the bottomland hardwood forest and wetland areas,
stop along the way and read the interpretive signs to learn more about the wildlife and marsh.
The boardwalk trail leads to a marsh overlook, offering some incredibly scenic views. On a clear day, you could see for miles!
