Louisiana isn’t necessarily known for its amazing forest walks and hikes, but like a lot of things, that doesn’t mean they aren’t breathtaking. One trail in particular, the Wild Azalea Trail, is not to be missed. The longest trail in Louisiana, the Wild Azalea trail is one of the most beautiful hikes you can take in our great state. Check out all the trail has to offer:
The Wild Azalea Trail can be found in the Kisatchie National Forest near Alexandria, LA.
The 26.2 mile trail includes pine covered hills and dense hardwood forests.
(Louisiana isn't all flat! There are many hills here.)
There are also wetlands, bogs, and lush bottomlands on the trail.
Some hikers have even found caves on the trail.
(Does anyone know where they can be found exactly?)
The old growth forests include some very amazing trees.

The Wild Azalea trail is the ideal place for anyone who loves the outdoors.
There are numerous backpacking and camping opportunities.
(Bike riding is also very popular here.)
For four years now, the Wild Azalea Trail Challenge has held running and bike races on the trail.
So go ahead, take a trip and find out what this special Louisiana trail is all about.
The weather is perfect for a hike this time of year---and the bugs aren't too bad yet, either.
