Most of us would likely agree that waterfalls in Kentucky, whether big or small, are absolutely breathtaking. There's just something so comforting about the sound of a gushing waterfall and the feel of the mist on your skin. We're lucky to live in a state that boasts beautiful waterfalls. If you've not yet visited the tallest waterfall in Kentucky, however, you'll definitely want to add it to your bucket list. Yahoo Falls is the destination for the journey we will be taking you on and we are sure that one look is all it will take to lace up those boots, pack your bag, and head on out into the vast wilderness to find it for yourself.

Tucked in a natural area that is shared by both Kentucky and Tennessee, Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. This is found just outside of Whitley City, Yahoo Falls holds the title of the tallest waterfall in Kentucky, dropping a spectacular 113 feet.

You can reach the waterfall by taking one of two trails, the first one is the Yahoo Falls, Yahoo Arch, and Markers Arch Loop Trail. This rigorous path will take you on a 5-mile hike with over 800 feet of elevation gain. This first trail will give you the benefit of seeing two arches along the way which is a sweet added bonus. The second way to get to the falls is by taking the Yahoo Falls Short Loop which will only take you on a 1-mile long hike with just under 200 feet of elevation gain. Be forewarned that both of the trails can get really busy, especially on lovely weather days.

The larger loop to Yahoo Falls is rated moderate, whereas the short loop is rated as easy-- but both of them are well worth the effort! You'll have to climb stairs, too, so make sure you're wearing sturdy hiking boots or shoes.

You can even learn a little more about Kentucky's tallest waterfall from the markers along the trail. We find that a trail can be enjoyed so much more when you take your time to slow things down and really soak in the surroundings. Make sure to read the signs, explore the arches, and get lost in wonder at the towering rock walls.

If you've got plenty of time, consider bringing along a picnic, so you can enjoy a leisurely meal under the canopy of trees!

For the best views of the waterfall, visit after a rainfall, when it will be at its most powerful. You can even walk behind Yahoo Falls for a unique view of the waterfall. There is something magical about a waterfall that plunges down from a high ledge and you can walk behind it.

You will want to bring your camera because there are so many views of the wonder waterfall to soak in.
