Kentucky is known for its abundant lakes, but Kentucky Lake Rock Quarry might just be our coolest (literally) discovery to date! Because each summer we discover more and more prime swimming spots throughout Kentucky, and we continue to be amazed and delighted by the treasures in the Bluegrass State! But one particular swimming hole is very popular, and also happens to be one of the most beautiful areas of our state. Within large Kentucky Lake, the infamous Rock Quarry is a stunning place to relax, cool off, and even enjoy in a little adventure.
Kentucky Lake is undeniably one of the most beautiful places in all of the Bluegrass State.
The 160,309-acre lake is one of the largest artificial lakes in the country. It's a popular spot for boating, swimming, fishing, and simply escaping from everyday life.
The lake is well-known and loved for many reasons.
One of these reasons is definitely the sunsets. But the lake is also known for hidden swimming spots, like the lovely one at the rock quarry cove.
The quarry, also known as "Party Cove," is an ideal spot to anchor, relax, and even people watch.
During the summer months, the area can get busy, but you'll still feel as if you've stumbled across a hidden gem. The rock cliff that towers above the lake always draws a crowd of brave jumpers. Of course, choosing to try the rock jump is at your own risk and you should definitely exercise caution. The lake is approximately 115-feet deep at this point and the water is clear and refreshing. There is a rope, if you choose to try and climb up to the jumping spot.
The graffiti on the rock is both entertaining and memorable.
Aside from the cliff jump, the area is known for the artistic display along the wall, "welcoming" you to the cove.
The quarry is located on the northern end of the lake, somewhat near Grand Rivers.
While it is typically accessed by boat, you can also reach it through Hillman Ferry Campground, if you happen to be staying there. So the next time you find yourself on Kentucky Lake, seek out this beautiful swimming hole, whether you're looking for relaxation or a little thrill.
