This has always been a picturesque region in the state - the town added five overlooks to make their sweeping views of Pine Mountain much more accessible. These views have become some of the most popular overlooks in Kentucky.
Each of the five overlooks is dedicated to an organization and/or person who is important to this area. Many of the structures were built where historic buildings once stood.
Falcon Overlook, for example, stands where the old Falcon Inn once welcomed guests. You can see the original fireplace from the Inn, taken during the process of building the overlooks. All of these spots are open for the public to come and enjoy the magnificent views.
These overlooks were built as an answer to the issue of people trying to find a way to enjoy the views, even when there was no clear path to do so.

To locate the new overlooks of Pine Mountain, you'll travel from Whitesburg and take HWY 119 South toward Cumberland / Harlan, Kentucky. The overlooks are just past the four-mile marker on the right.
