With so many great parks and recreation areas, there's no excuse not to get out and explore the beauty and history of Kentucky. Many parks also change and improve over time, which means you should plan a return visit, especially if it's been awhile since you've stopped by. One place that definitely deserves a repeat visit - or a first time visit - is Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park. This surprising park in Kentucky is now run by the city of London and has so much to offer. From an aerial park and treetop adventure to a historic mill, this beautiful park is filled with surprises.
Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park is located just south of London in scenic Laurel County.
A state park for many years, just last year it was transferred over to the city of London and improvements have already been underway. With so many features in one park, this destination is definitely worthy of a road trip.
One of the park's main features is McHargue's Mill, a spot you'll want to see for yourself.
This reproduction grist mill is not only picturesque, but allows you to step back in time. You can also visit the Mountain Life Museum to learn more about Wilderness Road and the history of this area of Kentucky.
The park is also home to one of the largest collections of authentic millstones.
Lining the walkway through the park, there's so much to learn and experience in this section of the property.
And after your history lesson, enjoy a lesson in the trees and challenge yourself at Treetop Adventure.
This aerial park is a blast and features zip lines, rope bridges, suspended tunnels, and more.
Ages 7 and up can try the 60 elements throughout the aerial park, making for a unique afternoon adventure.
The park is closed during the winter, but reopens in the spring and you can plan a visit on the Treetop Adventure website.
Once you're back on the ground, spend time exploring the rest of the park.
Try out a hiking trail, visit the gift shop, and pack a picnic to enjoy in one of the shelters. There are also playgrounds and other amenities for campers, such as mini golf and a seasonal outdoor pool.
Speaking of camping, Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park has that, as well!
The wooded campground is open year-round and is a lovely place to call home base while spending time in the park and the other attractions throughout Laurel County.
