Those outside of Kentucky know us for our "horse country," but do they know we also have an incredibly impressive "cave country?" Hopefully, most have heard of Mammoth Cave, but even some locals aren't familiar with this lesser-known cave tour in Kentucky. Diamond Caverns in Park City is not far from the most popular cave in Kentucky, but many prefer this historic site. With tours offered daily and the ability to take flash photography, you'll love heading down into the cavern to capture some of the best underground photos.
Believe it or not, Diamond Caverns has been offering tours for over 160 years and remains a tourist attraction in Park City. While many visit the area to see Mammoth Cave, make sure to include this spot on your must-see list.
From April through Labor Day, tours are offered every day of the week and run continually throughout the day. You must go on a guided tour and it's first come first served, so you can always call ahead to make sure there is space available.
When you do embark on the tour, be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring your camera! On your 1/2 mile tour, you'll go up and down 350 stairs, but no more than 50 at a time.
The lighting inside the cave has been designed to show off its natural beauty, while preserving its landscape. You are allowed to take flash photography on your tour, which means you can get some excellent photos by which to remember your visit.
The cave is filled with history and fascinating places, all of which you'll learn about from your tour guide. Each tour takes approximately 30-45 minutes and the cost can be found on the website linked below.
After you've spent time underground, be sure to stop by the gift shop. The cave and property are open all year long, but keep in mind that tours and hours are more limited throughout the fall and winter.
Just because it's not as popular, doesn't mean it's not as good! Visit this lesser-known cave tour in Kentucky and experience the history and natural underground beauty of Diamond Caverns.
