Lights Under Louisville is an incredible light display at the Mega Cavern, which includes 3,000,000 lights and 850 lit characters.

There are specific directions on the Lights Under Louisville website directing you to the entrance, and there often is some sort of wait. Cars willingly line up to drive through the underground display, which takes about 30 minutes to complete.
While many avoid the cave because of the lines, most agree that any amount of wait is worth it. This year, Lights Under Louisville offers the Christmas Express, which may be the solution you've been looking for to avoid the lines.
The Christmas Express is a daytime ride through the display in an open-air trailer, similar to the one shown below. These vehicles are typically used for tours through the cave, so they're perfect for this event.
You can purchase a ticket for the Christmas Express, and times are offered both during the week and weekends. Since the cave is, of course, dark during the day, the lights are just as enchanting as they are at night.
The open-air vehicle will take you on the 30-minute drive through the lights, where you'll be able to see them like never before. After the ride, children will receive a small toy, as well as milk and cookies in the cave's Winter Wonderland.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. We Bet You Didn’t Know That Kentucky Was Home To The Only Fully Underground Zip Line In The World

But there's another cave in Kentucky that's also quite extraordinary, with its own record-breaking claims to fame, too. The Louisville Mega Cavern is a massive underworld that's a true superlative superstar. There are lots of underground adventures to be had in Kentucky, with Mammoth Cave obviously standing out as a bucket-list must.
The Louisville Mega Cavern was originally a utilized as a limestone quarry, and from 1930-1970, huge volumes of natural materials were extracted and removed, essentially creating an expansive underground grotto.
Today, it's a place for adventure seekers and explorers, with some of the most incredible experiences in the world. And no -- this isn't an exaggeration!
The Louisville Mega Cavern is home to the only fully underground zip line on the planet. There are six zip lines located 100 feet above the canyon floor, with two swinging bridges, and immeasurable adventure.
But that's not the only superlative up the Mega Cavern's sleeve. It boasts the world’s only fully underground aerial ropes challenge course, the largest indoor bike park in the world, and the only fully underground holiday light display on the planet.
There's one more feather in the Mega Cavern's cap: it's actually the largest building in Kentucky. Yes -- the Mega Cavern is classified by the Metro Louisville Government and the State of Kentucky as a building -- and it even boasts its own building code!
